Every year, I run some sort of Mother’s Day Competition, usually giving away a family photoshoot to a deserving mum, so she can get some beautiful pictures of her with her kids (instead of the usual selfies).
It’s a constant frustration to me, just like it is to other mums, how the only way I get to appear in pictures with my kids is if I take the pictures myself. My phone and Camera are full of pictures of them, and pictures of them with my husband. But just like most, mine rarely thinks to snap a picture. I have to ask.
And that’s why I started doing family photography. I wanted to help mums appear in more pictures with their families instead of being the one taking the pictures all of time time.
But this past year, us mums have had a whole lot more to contend with. A Pandemic, Homeschooling, going through having babies alone because our partners couldn’t be there with us for appointments, no childcare (so no break!). Desperately trying to keep the kids from messing up our partners/husbands conference calls (and our own!) while working from home (always seems to be us even if we have work to do).
And to make matters worse, all the places we go when we need to get a bit of TLC (and time away from the kids!) have been shut. So not only are we struggling with kids during lockdown, but we’re doing it with bad hair (and everywhere else pretty unkempt too).
Add to that, the restrictions have hit female owned businesses super hard too. Beauty businesses, hospitality, wedding businesses etc are predominantly owned by women.
So for Mother’s Day this year, I’ve teamed up with three local Beauty businesses to do something a little different. Along with Coast Hair Design, Melanie Thornton MUA and Bliss Hair and Beauty, we’ll be giving THREE deserving mums a fabulous makeover and photoshoot to help them feel pampered, gorgeous and confident (and have a few hours away from the kids too!)
Each prize will include the makeover shoot worth £200 with bubbly and nibbles, a goody bag (worth over £100), a selection of pictures from the shoot to keep, and (the best bit) a few hours of child free time while you enjoy your prize!
The winner will be drawn on Mother’s Day and announced at 7.30pm on my Instagram stories

Entries must be put in the comments of the original post on Instagram. Any comments left on promo versions of the posts on other profiles will not be counted, so please be sure to enter in the right place.
Over 18’s Only, and entrants must be Mothers (it is a Mother’s Day competition).
Three winners will be picked at random from a list compiled of comments on the competition posts. These three winners will be contacted to confirm they would like to take part and receive their prize. If any winning nominees don’t want to take part, an alternative winner will be selected using the same process.
Winners must be happy to have pictures from the photoshoot shared on website and social media by the businesses involved in the competition. Including before and after shots.
‘Liking’ and/or ‘following’ the pages of the businesses involved is a condition of entry, as the businesses involved are giving their time, products and expertise for free as a prize.
Date of the shoot will be dependent on covid rules, and therefore will be subject to change, however we will keep in contact with winners to once a suitable date is chosen. We are aiming for a weekend mid-may.
Photoshoot will take place in the Torbay area only, and winners must be able to travel to the shoot location on the day, and provide their own transport.
Prosecco and nibbles will be provided, but soft drinks will also be available.
Winners must follow whatever covid guidelines are in place at the time of the shoot, including any social distancing requirements, mask wearing and not attending if having symptoms of covid or being in recent contact with someone who has symptoms of covid.
Images from the shoot must be for personal use only by the winners. Commercial rights may be discussed with the photographer. The photographer, as per UK law, retains the copyright for the images.
